Scott Rake is a Technical Trainer who has been a member of the New Horizons team since 2010, and has been teaching for the last 9 years. His instruction integrates blended modalities – from the traditional classroom to Online LIVE virtual learning and on-sites. In the classroom he references the real-world challenges he faced both in and outside of IT, and relates them back to the course material and theory being addressed. When Scott began his career in Information Technology, he was surprised to find few people willing to mentor someone new to the field. Instructional materials were available, but he could find little guidance to apply the information they provided. This motivated him become an instructor and provide the support he had hoped for, and do what he could to help others avoid the uneasy experience of knowing, but not understanding. Scott makes sure to remind himself that his job is to be a resource for others that need the direction that his experience can provide. IT is, after all, a service oriented industry. He feels obligated to provide a focused and practical approach in the classroom, and offer not only the material, but real-world applications as well. Over the years Scott has delivered training for clients such as Devon Energy, Chesapeake Energy, the United States Air Force, and the United States Postal Service.
