Sonja started as an application instructor at New Horizons in 2014. Her experiences working in public education provided her with a teaching foundation that she has been able to transfer to corporate class room settings. Sonja is able to deliver concepts in a manner that is understood by the “techie” or a novice. Sonja’s career with computers started in the mid to late nineties. It was not a career path that she chose but one that she was thrust into. She began this career as a result of wearing many hats as an Educational Technician in the Detroit Public Schools system. She worked for a department head who felt she could do almost anything she threw in her direction. Sonja found herself performing as an administrative assistant, desktop publisher, classroom assistant and technical support on any given day at any given time. These tasks were performed sometimes individually or concurrently. In the end it was the teaching of computer applications that won the battle. These tasked prepared her for first teaching job in which was internally referred to a Program Manager because if the multitude of responsibilities of a Career and Technical Teacher (CTE). As an instructor at New Horizons Sonja teaches MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access to individual class enrollees and to various corporate entities such as Chrysler Corporation, AAA of Michigan, University of Michigan, Team Detroit, Comerica Bank, among others.
